Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, chaired on Sunday, in Algiers, a ceremony organized by Algeria Press Service agency on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of its creation, marked by the launch of an information service in the Russian language, as part of giving concrete expression to its strategy aimed to expanding its services and contributing to making Algeria’s voice heard internationally.
“Sixty-three years of history vividly illustrate the remarkable journey of this pioneering agency, which carried the core values of the Algerian people during the Liberation Revolution. Starting with traditional means, it now competes, rightly so, with major international press agencies,” said the minister of Communication during this ceremony, in the presence of the adviser to the President of the Republic, in charge of the General Directorate of Communication at the Presidency of the Republic, Kamel Sidi Said, as well as directors of national media establishments.
After stressing “the importance for the Agency to integrate all institutional and media spaces to master technologies, acquire skills in artificial intelligence and other technologies, while strengthening training to address challenges,” the minister underlined that APS “combines modernity in using technologies and authenticity in the content to serve the nation’s supreme interests.”
For his part, Sidi Said expressed "his pride in seeing APS reach a level comparable to major regional press agencies, now broadcasting its content in six languages". He welcomed the efforts made in this regard over the past five years.
He emphasized that "the visit to the various agency services on this occasion allowed measuring the achievements and advances made since its creation in 1961 through successive generations".
After extending his congratulations to all agency staff on this anniversary, Sidi Said affirmed that the issue of the agency's foreign offices "will be resolved in the shortest possible time".
He welcomed "the role of APS in defending against all attacks targeting the country and its constant adaptation to modernization to respond to Algeria's ambitions.”
For his part, APS Director General, Samir Gaïd, said that this celebration is "an opportunity to recall an important stage of national memory, as the agency saw the light of day during the National Liberation Revolution, which Algeria is celebrating this year on its 70th anniversary of the outbreak".
"The 63rd anniversary comes at a time when the agency is taking giant steps in all its areas of competence, aligning its action with the supreme interests of the country," said Gaïd, pointing out the "several achievements, notably its increased international deployment and the major transformation it has undergone at the technical and technological levels.”
APS Director General Gaïd paid tribute to the journalists who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, honoring their memory alongside the dedicated professionals who have since retired, after years of committed service.
At the launch of the new Russian-language information service, Gaïd outlined the strategic significance of the initiative. He emphasized that the new service aims to amplify Algeria's voice on the global stage, carefully aligning with international media standards and expanding the agency's international reach.
